FAQ
common questions
What's the difference between Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology & Strength & Conditioning?
Physiotherapy, exercise physiology and strength and conditioning coaches all exist to improve physical health and function. At Movement Essentials, we work collaboratively to distinguish which practitioner is best suited to your needs, goals and current circumstances to partner with you to achieve your movement goals. In the capacity of movement, all 3 disciplines have the capacity to use movement to help with pain and improve physical capacity. The distinct differences between the three are: physiotherapists can diagnose, and have hands-on treatment approaches in addition to exercise, whilst exercise physiologists and strength and conditioning coaches rely on exercise and movement. Strength and conditioning coaches work more with either performance or in general public who seek to be stronger, whereas exercise physiologists have extensive knowledge in medical and health conditions and how to effectively manage them through exercise.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to see care from our practitioners. However, if you are seeking treatment for insurance-related injuries/concerns or are eligible for chronic care plans or veteran health services, a GP referral is required.
what should I expect in an assessment?
Our assessment is a collaborative session focused on understanding you — your history, goals, and how your body moves.
You can expect:
- A conversation about your health, lifestyle, and goals
- A movement assessment to look at strength, mobility, and control
- Clear explanations so you understand what’s going on
- Optional testing if relevant to your goals
- A personalised plan to guide your next steps
The goal: help you move better, feel stronger, and build confidence in your body.
can i use medicare?
Exercise Physiology is not claimable under Medicare. Chronic Care Plans (for those eligible) however, can attract a Medicare rebate.
